<p>It&#8217;s true, we all start from where we are.  Whether building a business, a relationship, a house, or a career.  And, when we look ahead to where we want to be, the journey can look mighty daunting.</p>
<p>One step at a time is the only way to proceed.  If we look too far ahead, we&#8217;ll never make the finish line.  I know it&#8217;s necessary to have a vision of where we are going, but the everyday steps we need to take to get us there are where our focus needs to be.</p>
<p>When we start our day, our plan needs to be: What do I need to accomplish today to get me one step closer to my dream? By accomplishing that step, we will feel satisfied. Keeping frustration at bay is important, and the best way to do that is by achieving daily that which will bring us closer to our intention (our dream).</p>
<p>Imagine how much progress can be made if we make one positive step every day towards achieving our dream business, dream relationship, dream house or dream career.  How far will you have come in one month? one year?</p>
<p>Having support and encouragement is often the key to whether we reach our final destination. All of us have good and bad days &#8211; that&#8217;s life.  Seeking the support of good mentors and taking the journey one step at a time is a great recipe for success.</p>

<p><strong>Personal Growth and Development</strong> is a life-long journey.  It involves making decisions and taking action that will affect our lives positively, and also affect the lives of those we rub shoulders with on our journey.</p>

<p>How true that is! How often is it necessary for us to take action on things we don&#8217;t particularly want to do?  Usually daily.  Whether we learn this lesson determines how much progress we make on our personal growth and development journey. Often we struggle with procrastination or lack of confidence, which stop us cold, when we know there is a whole lot more for us to achieve and discover.</p>
<p>I broke through the barrier created by procrastination and lack of confidence in my own life, using the <a href="http://simply-motivation.com/thinkrightnow" target="_blank">Think Right Now</a> audio programs. I highly recommend them, and I use them every day.<span id="more-60"></span></p>
<p>Getting back to Thomas Huxley&#8217;s quote, whether we like it or not, our choices determine our future. <p>Now, it is possible to enjoy the things we need to be doing, and when that happens &#8211; life is pretty sweet.  But, when it is necessary to get to the stuff that we don&#8217;t want to do &#8211; we find ourselves making excuses to put it off.</p>
<p>When we continue to do this over prolonged periods of time, conditions such as anxiety and panic attacks can occur. We find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, because we feel behind and out-of-control.</p>
<p>To avoid this we need to develop a Can Do attitude, the Mindset to do it now.</p>

<p>Every action and decision we make has consequences, good or bad. When we put off doing necessary tasks, there is always a negative consequence.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The answer to &#8220;How to Cure Procrastination&#8221; lies in understanding the causes.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve just received an email from Mike Brescia who explains, I think brilliantly, one of the primary reasons we procrastinate.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an exerpt from the email below:</p>
<p>We&#8217;re on to the third of the four underlying factors that make people put off important tasks, and&#8230; not so important tasks as well.</p>
<p>So here it is&#8230;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s sort of a combination, really.</p>
<p>Fear of failure.</p>
<p>Fear of not being able to do a task properly, and all of it&#8217;s real or imagined consequences.</p>
<p>This can and does quite often have its roots in perfectionism&#8230; not wanting to do anything that you can&#8217;t do perfectly (because of those consequences).</p>
<p>Well, as you know, you can&#8217;t usually do something perfectly unless you&#8217;ve done it a lot, in most cases.&nbsp; And when you do something a lot, in the beginning, you are going to screw up a lot more than you succeed.</p>
<p>Perfectionism has many benefits, but it also can serve to stop you dead in your tracks.</p>
<p>Perfectionists often times only get good at a few things because they aren&#8217;t willing to do the things they are not good at.&nbsp; Horrible little loop, isn&#8217;t it?</p>
<p>But for some it spurs them onto greatness, and we have a lot of examples of that in every field.&nbsp; In sports, for example, top athletes often practice doing the same things hundreds and even thousands of times in a single day in order to be perfect.&nbsp; Vijay Singh in golf is a good example.</p>
<p>And because perfection is often the difference between winning and losing, you can understand the desire for perfection in a number of different settings.&nbsp; On the battlefield is another place where the cost of mistakes is magnified intensely.&nbsp; Hence the desire to be perfect.</p>

<p>There are thousands of reasons that people are conditioned to not want to settle for anything less than perfection.&nbsp; When it creates greatness, well, that&#8217;s great.&nbsp; But for the<br />majority, since most people are not going to practice, drill and rehearse the things that they want to be perfect at, inside, it just makes you put the task off.</p>
<p>And all it does is look like neurosis to everyone else.</p>

<p>So the best way, obviously, to get rid of the procrastination habit would be for each of us to take months of a very specific kind of self-analysis, and look at all the possible fears we have that stop us and all the areas where our standards are so impossibly high that we just can&#8217;t go forward with certain kinds of tasks and create our own individual behavior modification programs&#8230;</p>
<p>But that would be too expensive and time consuming&nbsp;for 99.999% of the population.</p>

<p>We&nbsp;human beings are very feeling oriented.&nbsp; It is very easy for us to say:&nbsp; &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t feel like it today&rdquo;.&nbsp; Huge mistake&#8230;&nbsp; When you allow your feelings to dictate whether you do something or not &#8211; you&rsquo;re really looking for a reason to fail.</p>
<p><a href="http://simply-motivation.com/motivationnow" target="_blank"><strong>Motivation</strong></a> is not some extra talent that you need to acquire in order to achieve something.&nbsp; Motivation is getting yourself a big enough reason to complete your goal or dream.&nbsp; If you have a big enough reason, an important enough goal at the end of the tunnel, finding motivation becomes a lot easier.</p>
<p><strong>Taking action</strong> is one of the most important ingredients to success, and it&rsquo;s one of the best ways to get motivated about a project.&nbsp; Thinking about what needs to be done usually means that&rsquo;s all you achieve &#8211; thinking.&nbsp; Taking action, daily, is what will get you closer to your goal.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Looking at the big picture</strong> can frequently make you feel overwhelmed.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s important to have a plan, but break the plan down into stages &#8211; monthly, weekly and daily goals, and make sure you stick to them.&nbsp; If you have to, make yourself answerable to someone &#8211; a buddy, friend, or family member.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Motivate yourself</strong> by thinking, if my&nbsp;life depended on me getting this done every day, I would do it.&nbsp; Take responsibility for making sure you complete your daily tasks toward achieving your goal.&nbsp; Reward yourself in a positive way when you achieve milestones.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Have a diary</strong> or notebook where you tick off when you have achieved your goal.&nbsp; Being able to look back on progress made is a great motivator.&nbsp; When you see what progress you have already made, you are more inclined to knuckle down to the next task.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Staying motivated</strong> when you have setbacks can be challenging.&nbsp; It is a lot easier to be motivated when everything is working, but much harder in the face of challenges.&nbsp; Always remember, tomorrow is a new day.&nbsp; Take one day at a time.&nbsp; We all have bad days, but just because you have one day that doesn&rsquo;t go as planned, don&rsquo;t allow yourself to give up.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Regroup</strong> your thoughts, remind yourself of your reasons for setting your goal in the first place, and start fresh.&nbsp; Treat every day as a new opportunity to achieve and succeed.&nbsp; Every person who has been successfull, in whatever form that means to them, has been so because they have persevered despite setbacks and frustrations.&nbsp; They have not allowed their motivation to fade for any significant length of time.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It is human to feel disappointment or discouragement, but don&rsquo;t allow yourself to stay there.&nbsp; Find what will motivate you and start over.&nbsp;</p>

<p>What do you do when despite your best planning, and all the right attitude in the world, your plans seem to be going down the shute &#8211; and your motivation is going with them?</p>
<p>A good first response is to <strong>stop any negative thoughts</strong> in their tracks.&nbsp; Get up and go and do something completely different to what you were doing.&nbsp; If you were working at the computer, go outside.&nbsp; Water the garden, pull out some weeds, walk the dog.&nbsp; If a family member or colleague is driving you crazy &#8211; get some time alone, away from them as soon as you can.&nbsp;</p>
